Al Toney tabbed as the new Boys' Varsity Basketball Coach


We are thrilled to announce the hiring of Al Toney as the new Head Varsity Boys Basketball Coach & Program Builder. Coach Toney brings over 30 years of coaching experience at the middle school, high school, and AAU levels, as well as working as a skill development coach and trainer for elite basketball camps.

Coach Toney has amassed over 400 wins, won 5 Section Championships, and has been honored as Coach of the Year seven times. Coach Toney has worked alongside and/or trained the likes of Gary Payton, Jason Kidd, Steve Nash, Isaiah Thomas (Kings), Jordan Poole, Hailey Jones, Harrison Barnes, Jennifer Azzi, Michael Bradley, Cameron Brink, and many more.

Coach Toney states, "It is my desire to elevate the brand of MVC basketball by building through the influence of the Lord, togetherness, toughness, and willingness to make sacrifices for one another to be successful. We will play entertaining basketball, which will excite the student body, staff, faculty, and community to come out and cheer and support what the Lord will be creating through these young student-athletes."

A key leadership principle of Coach Toney's program is taken from Proverbs 4:20-23: "My son, pay attention to what I say; turn your ear to my words. Do not let them out of your sight, keep them within your heart; for they are life to those who find them and health to one's whole body. Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it."
The importance of focus, discipline, and integrity are values that will embody MVC basketball.

Director of Athletics Matt Coleman adds, "With an impressive career spanning over 30 years and more than 400 wins, Coach Toney brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record of success. His enthusiasm is contagious, and his commitment to fostering a collaborative environment is inspiring. Coach Toney has had the privilege of working with elite basketball players, and his ability to develop talent, at any level, will significantly enhance our program. His passion for teaching the game of basketball, along with valuable life lessons that are Christ-centered, will prepare our players for success both on and off the court. We are confident his leadership will usher in a new era of excellence for MVC basketball."
