In a thrilling showdown on Friday night, the Monte Vista Christian Mustangs secured a dramatic 25-23 victory over Scotts Valley High, capped by a game-winning 34-yard field goal by Julian Pizarro as time expired.
Monte Vista jumped out to a commanding 19-0 lead at halftime, looking unstoppable on both sides of the ball. The offense, led by quarterback Dominic Pierini , was in sync from the opening kickoff.
After trailing 22-8 at the end of the third quarter, the Falcons stormed back with 15 unanswered points in the fourth to take a 23-22 lead with just 54 seconds left on the clock.
But with time ticking away, the Mustangs refused to back down. The mustangs drove down the field with key plays from Nico Downie, Boston Ashe, and Gunner Sorensen, setting up the game winner for Pizarro.
With the game on the line, Julian Pizarro calmly stepped up and drilled his second 34-yard field goal of the night, sending the Mustangs sideline into a frenzy.
